PROBLEM AND OPPORTUNITY

Problem / Need : Periodontitis is a inflammation and obliteration of supporting tissue of teeth e.g. gingiva and bone. Treatment for it requires super specialist, surgery, local anaesthesia, high antibiotic, high cost, more time is required.

Signs & Symptoms

Swollen gums, Bleeding gums
Pus around teeth and gums
Tender gums
Loose teeth
Bad breath
New spaces developing between teeth

Opportunity

70% of Indian population is suffering from mild to severe form of periodontitis.
Metal Diamond bur cannot be used to curette diseased gingiva because it is too hard and Rigid.
It will damage tooth and tear soft tissue.

PROPOSED SOLUTION

POC : Designed a Novel Medical plastic flexible bur which will curette diseased
periodontal pocket wall and polish tooth side wall when fitted in rotary instrument.
